A day for all who served

Veterans Day is a thank-you, not a memorial. It honors everyone who served in the armed forces, in peacetime or war, whether they deployed or stayed stateside. That makes it a broader and more public occasion than Memorial Day, which is specifically for those who died while serving.

The date comes from the First World War armistice, which took effect at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918. It was observed as Armistice Day before Congress renamed it Veterans Day in 1954. The holiday moved to the fourth Monday in October from 1971 through 1977, then returned to November 11 in 1978.

The designs in this collection

November 11 — Honoring All Who Served. A date-driven design built specifically for Veterans Day ceremonies, parades, and breakfasts across heavyweight tees, long-sleeve shirts, polos, hoodies, dad hats, trucker caps, mugs, and stickers.

Thank You for Your Service — Honor & Respect. Pairs a compass rose and clean typography around a straightforward expression of gratitude, available on shirts, polos, hoodies, caps, mugs, and stickers.

1776–2026: 250 Years of American Veterans (shirts, drinkware, and embroidered caps). Connects the 250th anniversary of American independence to the generations of veterans who have defended the country from 1776 to 2026, offered on printed shirts, polos, hoodies, mugs, and stickers plus a matching embroidered 1776–2026 / 250 Years / US Veterans cap on dad hats, trucker caps, and beanies.

United States Veteran flag line. A quiet, understated flag-line tribute suited for Veterans Day observances and everyday wear across caps, beanies, shirts, polos, hoodies, mugs, and stickers.

Lest We Forget — Honor the Fallen. A solemn remembrance design for veterans and families honoring fellow service members who did not come home.

When to wear which design

For a Veterans Day ceremony, choose a quieter design: November 11, Thank You for Your Service, or Quiet Professionals. For a family gathering or a parade, the 250 years and Guardians designs are more visible. For everyday wear, a small mark on a hat or a mug is less formal than a shirt.

Do not treat a Veterans Day shirt as a Memorial Day shirt. The two days have different meanings, and a design that says “thank you for your service” is out of place at a remembrance ceremony for the fallen.

Blanks and sizing

The core tee is the Comfort Colors 1717: 6.1 oz/yd² (206.8 g/m²), 100% ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed, relaxed fit, with a 7/8 inch double-needle collar and twill-taped neck and shoulders. The Bella+Canvas 3501 long-sleeve is 4.2 oz with 2-inch ribbed cuffs, and the Bella+Canvas 3719 hoodie is 8.0 oz fleece.

Hats are the Yupoong 6245CM dad hat and the Yupoong 6606 trucker cap. The mug is 11 oz or 15 oz ceramic, dishwasher and microwave safe. The sticker is 95-micron vinyl.

Gift timing

Veterans Day is a fixed date, so order early. Production takes 2–5 business days and transit adds about 3–5 business days. Order at least two weeks before November 11 if you need the item in hand. A mug or a sticker is easier to ship late than a shirt, because it does not depend on a size.

A respectful note

A Veterans Day design should thank, not claim. It should not imply a rank, an award, or a campaign the wearer did not experience. Our designs avoid branch names, seals, medals, and unit patches. If you are buying for a veteran, choose the design that matches how they talk about their own service.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Veterans Day on November 11?

The armistice that ended the fighting in the First World War took effect at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918. The date was observed as Armistice Day before Congress renamed it Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all who served.

How is Veterans Day different from Memorial Day?

Veterans Day honors all who served in the armed forces, living or dead. Memorial Day honors those who died while serving. The distinction matters — a Veterans Day shirt is a thank-you, while a Memorial Day shirt is a remembrance.

Was Veterans Day always on November 11?

No. The Uniform Holiday Act moved Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October from 1971 through 1977. It returned to November 11 in 1978 after public objection. The federal observance is November 11 regardless of the weekday.

What does the 1776–2026 design mark?

It marks the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026 and the long history of American military service that began before independence. The design uses dates and original typography, not an official commission mark.

Is this an official VA or government product?

No. Truth Veteran is an independent publisher and shop. We are not the Department of Veterans Affairs or any government agency, and these products are not official government items.

Which Veterans Day item makes a good gift?

A heavyweight tee or a dad hat is the most useful. A mug is the safest if you do not know the size. If the recipient prefers a quieter design, choose the November 11 or thank-you layout over a large flag graphic.
