A fleece layer for cold-weather service

The veteran hoodie is the piece people wear after the ceremony, on a cold morning, or at a reunion in the fall. This collection uses one blank: the Bella+Canvas 3719 unisex pullover hoodie. It is an 8.0 oz/yd² (271 g/m²) fleece with a regular fit, side-seamed construction, a front kangaroo pocket, a dyed-to-match drawcord, and rib-knit cuffs and waistband.

Solid colors are 52% airlume combed and ring-spun cotton and 48% poly fleece. Heather colors are 60% cotton and 40% poly. The brushed interior is soft against a t-shirt, and the poly content helps the hoodie hold shape and resist shrinking.

Hoodie prints sit across the chest, above the kangaroo pocket. The artwork is scaled to the body width rather than copied from the tee size, so a large era name or a bold VETERAN layout does not crowd the pocket seam. Simpler marks read best on fleece because the brushed surface absorbs a little of the fine detail that a smooth cotton tee holds.

If you want the sharpest print, choose a design with strong contrast and avoid very fine linework. If you want the softest hand, choose a darker color, where the print edge is less visible.

Sizing and fit

The 3719 is a regular unisex fit. It is not a slim hoodie, but it is not a boxy oversized cut either. The side seams keep the body straight, and the ribbed cuffs and waistband stop the hem from flaring.

For a layered look over a heavyweight tee, size up one. For a hoodie worn over a thin shirt, take your normal size. If you are buying as a gift and do not know the recipient’s preference, the regular fit in a dark color is the safer choice. The size guide lists chest and body length measurements.

Care and longevity

Turn the hoodie inside out before washing. Use cold water and a mild detergent, then tumble dry low or hang dry. High dryer heat is the main cause of shrinkage and print cracking. Do not iron the chest print; if the hoodie needs pressing, iron the inside of the fabric on low.

The drawcord and pocket are stitched, not glued, so they hold up to regular wear. Check the pocket seams if you carry keys or a phone; that is the first place a well-used hoodie shows strain.

Matching pieces

A hoodie works as the top layer of a set. Pair it with a veteran shirt in the same era for a reunion, or with an embroidered hat for a cold commute. If you want a specific era, start with the service eras page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the hoodie made of?

Solid colors are 52% airlume combed and ring-spun cotton and 48% poly fleece. Heather colors are 60% cotton and 40% poly fleece. The fabric weight is 8.0 oz/yd² (271 g/m²), with a brushed interior and a regular fit.

Does the hoodie have a front pocket?

Yes. The Bella+Canvas 3719 has a front kangaroo pouch pocket, a dyed-to-match drawcord, and rib-knit cuffs and waistband. The side-seamed body keeps the fit straight through the torso.

Should I size up for a layered fit?

The 3719 is a regular unisex fit. If you plan to wear it over a heavy flannel or a thick tee, size up one. If you want it close to the body, take your normal size. The ribbed cuffs and waistband hold the hem in place either way.

Will the chest print crack?

Wash the hoodie inside out in cold water and tumble dry low. Avoid high heat and do not iron over the print. The ink is applied to a brushed fleece surface, so the print can feel slightly softer than on a cotton tee.

Which color is most versatile?

Black, Heather Navy, and Athletic Heather are the easiest to pair with jeans and jackets. Dark colors also hide the slight shade variation that comes with heather fleece.

Is a veteran hoodie a good gift?

Yes, if you know the recipient's size and the era or role they identify with. A hoodie is less formal than a polo and more useful than a novelty item. If you are unsure about size, a hat or a mug is safer.
