Apparel Size Guide

Finding the right apparel fit

Truth Veteran apparel is manufactured on demand specifically for you upon purchase. Because each item is produced individually, our store does not process exchanges or returns for incorrect size selection, as detailed in our returns policy.

To ensure your shirt fits comfortably, we recommend measuring a favorite t-shirt from your wardrobe laid flat on a table, and comparing those numbers to the manufacturer specifications provided below.

Comfort Colors 1717 unisex heavyweight tee

Our graphic t-shirts are printed on the authentic Comfort Colors 1717 garment-dyed heavyweight tee. Crafted from 100% ring-spun cotton with a fabric weight of 6.1 oz/yd² (206.8 g/m²), this shirt offers a relaxed fit with a 7/8″ double-needle topstitched collar, twill-taped neck and shoulders for extra durability, and double-needle armhole, sleeve, and bottom hems. Garment-dyeing gives the fabric a vintage look and soft feel.

The table below lists the official manufacturer measurements from the Comfort Colors (Gildan Activewear) published garment specification sheet for Model 1717:

How to measure your shirt

  • Chest Width: Measure flat across the front of the shirt from seam to seam, approximately one inch below the armhole seam. Double this number if calculating full chest circumference.
  • Body Length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder seam (where the collar meets the shoulder) straight down to the bottom edge of the hemline.
  • Fit Note: The Comfort Colors 1717 is cut in a relaxed, classic American fit. Because garments undergo a garment-dye washing process during manufacturing, industry-standard variations of up to plus or minus one inch can occur across production lots.

Embroidered hats and caps

Our embroidered veteran caps are produced on two classic adjustable Yupoong silhouettes:

  • Classic Dad Hat (Yupoong 6245CM): Unstructured, 6-panel, low-profile cap with 6 embroidered eyelets, a 3 ⅛″ (7.6 cm) crown, and an adjustable strap with an antique buckle. Made from 100% chino cotton twill.
  • Retro Trucker Hat (Yupoong 6606): Structured, 6-panel, mid-profile cap with a low-profile embroidery area, hard buckram front panels, mesh back, a 3.5″ (8.9 cm) crown, a Permacurv® visor with matching undervisor, and a plastic adjustable closure. Fabric composition is 60% cotton, 40% polyester (or 74% polyester, 26% cotton depending on color and available stock).
  • Circumference: One-size-fits-most adjustable sizing; the Yupoong 6606 trucker hat fits head circumferences from 21⅝″ to 23⅝″ (54.9 cm to 60 cm); and the Yupoong 6245CM dad hat fits about 20½″ to 24⅜″ (52 cm to 62 cm).
  • Design: Typographic front embroidery without service-branch names, seals, insignia, unit patches, flags, or medals.

Garment care recommendations

To preserve the vibrant pigment of garment-dyed cotton and protect printed artwork over time, follow these garment care practices:

  • Machine wash cold with like colors, inside out, using mild detergent.
  • Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry to preserve garment shape and minimize shrinkage.
  • Do not iron directly over printed typography or embroidered thread.
  • Avoid chlorine bleach or harsh stain removers that can strip garment-dyed pigments.

About this design

A proud daughter of a veteran shirt and hat for military daughters honoring a parent's service, embroidered on caps and printed on tees.

This design reads PROUD DAUGHTER OF A VETERAN in clean, balanced capitals. Military service shapes the entire household, and daughters often become the family historians—the ones who frame the discharge papers, organize the Honor Flight trip, walk beside their parent at the November 11 parade, or keep a late father's memory present at holidays.

Because the lettering does not name a specific war or military branch, it works whether you are honoring a father or a mother, and whether their service took place in the 1940s, the Vietnam years, or the post-9/11 decades. It is a favorite for Veterans Day school assemblies, Memorial Day services, community parades, and family reunions. Many buyers also pair this shirt or mug with an era cap for their dad or mom as a two-part Father's Day, Mother's Day, or Christmas gift.

We offer the design across the full range of blanks so you can pick what fits the weather and the occasion. Our dad hats, trucker caps, beanies, and polos are stitched with direct embroidery, while our tees, long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, ceramic mugs, and stickers are printed to order.
