About this design

A Vietnam veteran hat and tee honoring 1955–1975 service with clean typography, embroidered on caps and printed on heavyweight shirts.

Vietnam veteran is two words, VIETNAM over VETERAN, separated by a single horizontal rule. Nothing else. The type is set in a wide, heavy capital face with generous letter spacing, because the whole design has to survive being stitched at less than three inches wide.

We made it plain on purpose. The Vietnam War divided the country that fought it, and the people who served in it came home to a reception that had nothing to do with their service. A garment is not a monument and should not pretend to be one. What this design does is state the era and the title and let the person wearing it decide how much more to say.

The layout is identical across the dad hat, the trucker hat, and the heavyweight tee; only the application changes, with direct embroidery on the caps and a direct-to-garment print on the shirt. The rule between the words is the one decorative element, and it is there to keep the two lines from reading as a single block of text at hat scale.

What are the Vietnam era service dates?

The Department of Veterans Affairs sets the Vietnam era in 38 CFR § 3.2, and the National Archives lists the same window for records purposes. Our Vietnam veteran collection page walks through the dates, the difference between service in the Republic of Vietnam and service elsewhere, and the DD Form 214 blocks that prove both.

Does this Vietnam veteran design include official service medals or branch seals?

No. Commercial use of branch names, seals, insignia, unit patches, and medals is regulated by the Department of Defense. This design uses original commemorative lettering that honors Vietnam service without claiming official government status.
